 Netflix is the revolution for the media. Netflix gave DVD cassettes for rent in the -beginning but now Netflix is a media platform which provides content and creates content also. The founders of Netflix are ‘Reed Hastings’ and ‘Marc Randolph’. There’s a small story behind creating Netflix. In the19th century, people used to go to the theatres to watch movies or take DVD cassettes for rent to watch. Reed Hastings also took Apollo 13 cassette for rent and after watching it he kept it on a place and he totally forgot about it. After so many days, he found it and when he went to return it to the company, the company fined him $40 to Reed Hastings for submitting the cassette so late. Reed Hastings felt shocked and inquires why should he pay fine for submitting the cassette. Then they explained that whoever submits the cassettes late to the company they’ve to pay fine for it. He paid the fine but felt that is it not correct. One day when he went to gym, he came to about the fee details of the gym and monthly subscription. At that moment he got an idea about monthly subscription.

IDEA about MONTHLY SUBCRIPTION:

 He got an idea that if we offer these movie cassettes for rent then fee for late submission of the cassettes will not be considered and without attention, we can return it back. In this way, the idea about Netflix was born. Normally if you want to rent a movie cassette we had to go to the store and purchase it but Netflix will send DVD in post to home in the easiest way. On August 29th 1997, Reed and Randolph in California with 30 members of staff started Netflix online DVD rental store. In those days, it was the first online DVD rental store which booked the DVD cassettes in online. The staff used to send DVD in mail by rent -by -mail DVD service for which the customer had to pay- per- rental model. Netflix Grace reached the highest height in 1999, also Netflix started to offer its subscription service. Subscription account reached to 2,39,000.

 Like Amazon and Disney Plus hot star, Netflix also got so many subscriptions. In Netflix library, there are 3,100 movies approximately but they didn’t get the profits as expected. Even then the company was running in a proper way but didn’t reach the expected heights. At that moment, Randolph announced Reed as the President and he took the C.E.O post and started Netflix. The subscription for Netflix was about 3 lakhs in 2000.

Though the subscription for Netflix were many, it was still in loss when compared with the profits because Netflix used to send DVD cassettes to the customer by Postal service and the postal cost was much more than the Netflix profit. That's why Netflix slowly tasted loss and decided strongly to get profit, that's why he wanted to sell Netflix company to the Blockbuster company. Blockbuster company used to give DVDs for rent. Reed Hastings agreed to sell Netflix for 50 million dollars to blockbuster company but they smoothly rejectedthe offer. In 2001, Netflix subscription crossed to 1 million but Netflix didn’t receive any profits. The service of sending DVD’s using post to customers was very costly than the money they receive from subscription.

 Netflix company deducted one by third (1/3) members of its staff to save the company from financial problems. Reed and Randolph took Netflix into public domain. With initial IPO, Netflix raised 82.1 million dollars with 6 million shares. The profit and growth are growing after Netflix became public domain but in 2003 Marc Randolph sold his shares and got exit from Netflix. He used to say that he can work for start-up companies very well that's why he was going from fully developed Netflix company. Another founder, Reed had an idea to convert Netflix to streaming services but it was not possible with the technology in those days. After few years, the technology supported streaming service. Finally, Netflix started streaming service in 2007. Netflix gave free streaming service offer to the subscribers who had already subscribed DVD subscription. In 2007, Netflix subscription crossed 7.5 million. In that 1-year, Netflix got profit of 1.2 billion dollars. From 2010 till date, Netflix had a tight competition. The defining moment of Netflix came in 2012. To handle the tough competition, Netflix started production.

Netflix used to provide content but now Netflix has become a content creator and started to produce original shows. The first two shows created by Netflix were ‘Lily hammer’ and ‘House of Cards’. From then until now Amazon produced approximately more than 1900 shows and movies. In 2013, Netflix introduced user profile and also, they had bought multiple user option in 2021. Netflix subscriber’s count crossed to 209 million. Except China, Iran, North Korea and Syria, Netflix totally became available in 190 countries. At present there are 15,000 Plus shows and movies available in Netflix and its yearly income is 25 billion dollars. From small DVD rental company to highest streaming service, Netflix became ‘the King’ in streaming service. Netflix had dealings with professional writers and directors to produce content and they dealt with big production houses in Hollywood and with hardware companies also Netflix is included.
