Unraveling the Enigma of IPL: A Cultural spectacle
INDIA is a country of different combinations of castes,
creed united together with a bondage of FREEDOM. In India, Hindus celebrate the festival of
SANKRANTHI, Muslims celebrate RAMZAN, Christians celebrate CHRISTMAS BUT the
only festival which all the people celebrate together without the difference of
religion is IPL i.e. INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE
Every summer, this festival of IPL is celebrated with 10 franchise
for two months with great enthusiasm and encouraging each Indian to get
entertained. Also increasing its demand day by day.
Every year its demand is increasing in competition with the
world’s richest teams like NFL, NBA and FORMULA 1. Of course, it’s not at all
amazing that T20 is getting so much of popularity in India at the same time IPL
got the world-famous popularity BUT let us know some interesting Facts about
IPL
HOW DID IPL BECAME SO WORLD – WIDE FAMOUS?
SINCE 2008, IT’S CRAZE HAS NEVER BEEN DECREASED TILL TODAY,
WHY?
AFTER IT HAS BEEN PROVED THAT FIXING HAS BEEN DONE BUT
EVENTHEN IT IS SERVIVED, HOW?
HOW DID IPL REACHED THE VALUE OF 10 BILLION?
Let us find out the MAGIC OF IPL:
Most of the CRICKET FANS know about the origin of IPL but it
is just an information for the non – cricket fans to understand it in a better
way
The craze has never been decreased but from the beginning of
21st Century onwards, Cricket was unable to attract the new
audience. Even then there were die -heart fans for one day cricket and test
cricket, it was unable to gather new audience because the time taken to
complete test series and day matches was prolonged and the audience might have
felt bored because of the formats. During that period, England started to
introduce a new format of cricket which can be completed within three hours BUT
this format didn’t receive any craze from the audience. Except, Australia, England and New Zealand
other countries didn’t participate in this format of match
In fact, INDIA played only one T20 International match
before World cup in 2007, that too with South Africa.
In 2007, before the World cup, when INDIA played with South Africa in T20 and Misbaul huck played the shot which was caught by Srishanth who was on the fine leg, at that time the thought of IPL was provoked at that spot. INDIA won the T20 match when Srishanth caught the catch and automatically let the Indians win the T20 match which started creating craze in the Indians. After INDIA won the T20 match, an ICL (INDIAN CRICKET LEAGUE) was created which is also known as REBEL LEAGUE because BCCI didn’t give a permission for it. So, to encash the craze for T20 and put a check for ICL, the Wise - President of BCCI Lalit Modi created this IPL League. Therefore, the IPL which was started in 2008 received a huge success.
REASONS FOR IPL CRAZE:
The first main reason for IPL craze is IPL MODEL. The craze for T20 has been increased and also the main reason was the selection of MODEL by Lalit Modi. Till that time, there was a system of AUCTION for Basketball and Football only but AUCTION was started for Cricket from this point only and an excitement was started in the fans of Cricket that Auction is going to be conducted for Cricket also especially in INDIA. Many questions started in the mind of Cricket fans that How much will be auctioned for Sachin Tendulkar? In which team Dhoni will be included? Through IPL Auction many Cricket fans got connected to IPL matches and ultimately this was the reason for IPL Success. Along with BCCI and IPL, Cricket has also attracted the fans by adding glamour to the Cricket like Shah Rukh Khan, Preeti Zinta, Shilpa Shetty and Juhi Chawla created craze in the fans by BCCI. Non – Cricket fans also got attracted to IPL when they came to know that their favourite stars are included in it. BCCI not only gave team ownership to glamour but also attracted the fans by conducting dance performances, Music performances in the opening ceremonies of IPL. These all performances added a new flavor to the IPL.
** The second main reason are the ELITE PLAYERS who
plays in the league. There are fans who imagine cricket as GOD and not
particularly about cricket but about game and player they admire the players the
most. For example: There are cricket fans who completely supports the Indian
team but at the same time admires their opposite team’s players for there
techniques in playing and spontaneity. So, there are people who supports
the other country’s players also. Therefore, their will be a small wish in
every cricket fan’s heart to see their favourite star cricketer playing in
other country’s IPL League along with other country’s cricketers and this wish
was made real by IPL. There are unexpected situations where fans were the
witness to see with their eyes in front of them made real by IPL. i.e.,
Sachin Tendulkar and Sanad Jai Surya coming as opening batsman together, Saurav
Ganguly and Sreyas Baktar hug each other when the wicket was taken, Bill Christ
and Gips batting together and hitting 4’s and 6’s with a great competition
etc., These are the combinations which the fans didn’t even imagine in
their dreams but IPL made it real and touched the hearts of the fans
*** The third reason is the REGIONAL PRIDE. Recently,
a match for Ranji Trophy was conducted between Mumbai and Vidarbha in which
Mumbai won the match. If the match would have been between Mumbai Vs Sunrises Hyd,
then the fans of SRH would not even go to their work but stick to the T. V’s
for match. That means the Trophies for which match will be conducted like Ranji
Trophy, Mustakhali trophy are not so famous, and if there is a match between
the states also viewership will not be their and fans doesn’t show much
interest in these kind of matches Boz there will be no participation from
famous cricketers which leads to disinterest BUT in IPL if the state team is
playing a match with the other state, then the fans will be loyal by supporting
them. IPL caught this Regional Pride in the best way. IPL made it a point to
include a star player in every team to create a great interest and enthusiasm
in the audience to support their particular team and locked the audience from
each state. There is a rivalry also between the audience but it is only to
an extent when match was conducted between CSK Vs MUMBAI, RCB VS MUMBAI, RCB VS
SRH. In this way, IPL is not only getting the money invested but also catching
the emotions of the fans. These Leagues like T20, Big Match League, PSL are not
even close to IPL, reason is that it is not so famous and the IPL Window, Every
year ICC showcases the Calendar of IPL, in this Calendar Major Cricket matches
will be conducted in March, April and May months between the star players and famous teams like England, South Africa,
New-Zealand etc., So, the viewership becomes more in these months through IPL
which provides full craze and entertainment to the audience with a great thrill
and competitive spirit.
**** The next reason for the craze of IPL, not only in
INDIA but in the whole world is EMERGING TALENT like Jaspreet Bumra,
Shubman Gill, Rishabh Panth, Rinku Singh and so many youngsters were given
chance to showcase their talent. There were days, to become famous along with
the money, and fame was needed but through IPL talent was show casted and cricketers
became world famous only because of IPL. In case of money, IPL has left the T20
far off and the players will be getting 5times more price money when compared
to T20 and regarding digital rights 2023 -2027 BCCI got 48000 Crores
CONCLUSION:
Therefore, IPL is not just a sports match but it is a
festival of celebration in which every religion, caste, creed, state will be
united to celebrate together the talent, glamour, thrill and enjoys to their
heart content by entertainment.
